Student ADVOCACY & JUDICIAL AFFAIRS

Mission

Student Advocacy & Judicial Affairs (SA&JA) proactively supports the academic mission of Missouri S&T by providing advocacy, prevention, intervention and referral services to students in their living-learning-working communities. These services are designed to foster citizens who exercise personal responsibility, ethical decision-making and cross-cultural competency. Through relations, student conduct processes, and informational programming and intervention efforts, SA & JA strives to provide a safe, orderly and positive campus community

Goals

Student Judicial Affairs service goals are as followed:

  • Enforcement of the code of student conduct, as created by student, faculty and staff members of the university community.
  • To be fair, consistent, and just and to treat each individual with dignity and respect through the administration of the disciplinary process.
  • To promote and instill the values of civility and good citizenship; specifically, respect for self, respect for others, and respect for established community standards of behavior.
  • To provide a community free of intimidation, harassment or unfair treatment on the basis of race, religion, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or veterans status.
  • To provide student leadership opportunities though involvement in the judicial, mediation, and student ethical development programs offered.
  • To provide students with life-long skills necessary for positive and productive conflict management.
  • To provide educational programs and activities that serve the university community in preventing violations of the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Finally, we are committed to the holistic development of the student through programs that provide opportunities for ethical development, development of conflict management/resolution skills, and an understanding and appreciation for standards of community behavior.

Student Advocacy & Judicial Affairs programs and services support appropriate individual and group behavior as well as to protect the campus community from disruption and harm. The programs and services are conducted in ways that will serve to foster the ethical development and personal integrity of students and the promotion of an environment that is in accord with the overall educational goals of the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
